Paper discussing biological warfare of ‘great interest’ to Chinese military: Intelligence chair | Sky News Australia: Liberal Senator James Paterson has revealed he holds concerns about China’s lack of transparency amid revelations researchers discussed the use of biological weapons five years before COVID-19 struck.
Mr Paterson – who chairs the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security - said he was “concerned” that Chinese military researchers had discussed biological warfare in the document.
“What this paper shows is it is of a great deal of interest to the highest levels of the People’s Liberation Army,” he said.
“What we would ask of them, as we’d ask of any government in the world, is to be transparent and open about that.”
Mr Paterson said as China was a signatory to major international agreements banning the research of biological weapons, he was concerned whether the interest in the paper had “gone further”.
“China like many other countries has entered into obligations not to conduct research of this nature for all these reasons outlined in your introduction,” he said.
“They are highly dangerous weapons that could do massive harm to our societies and no one wants to see them released.

"It is an extraordinary acknowledgement; it is incomprehensible for a public health official, charged with protecting public health to take this position, but that's what he has done," she said.
"These emails show that in the very early stages of the pandemic - in early 2020 - he became concerned that the finding for gain-of-function research in the US had flown to Wuhan.
"And we see there's a flurry of emails where he's trying to find out whether he could be responsible or whether the NIH could be responsible for funding the research that might have created the virus that has leaked."
Ms Markson said it was "a real possibility" American funding under Anthony Fauci "funded a virus that might have leaked that has resulted in this global pandemic".

Israel-Palestine conflict death toll continues to climb | Sky News Australia: The death toll in the ongoing Palestinian, Israel conflict has climbed to 40 while more than 200 people each from Israel and Palestine are injured.
The most tense skirmish between Israel and Palestine since 2014 began more than a week ago and has claimed 35 lives in the Gaza Strip and five in Israel.
The Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed more than 200 Palestinians have been injured while a similar number of Israelis have suffered from the clashes.
The Israeli Defence Forced claimed more than 1000 rockets were fired into Israel from the Gaza Strip with most being intercepted by the Iron Dome Missile Defence System.
The IDF has also claimed to have struck more than 500 targets killing multiple high-profile militant leaders.
